Here’s a backyard adventure idea that is fairly easy to build and will provide years of family fun while creating memories to last a lifetime!
In the last number of years many people have taken to installing a backyard fire pit so they can enjoy some of the same fun times experienced when they went camping. Let’s face it. One of the enjoyable times remembered about camping trips is sitting around a camp fire and roasting marshmallows or hotdogs, having a drink, and conversation with friends or even break out the guitar and have a sing along. There’s something about the ambiance of the fire as flames dance in the dark captivating our stare. A hotdog or hamburger has their very own delicious taste when cooked over an outdoor fire.
With a little bit of effort on a weekend you can build your own fire pit. Just plan out where you’d like to have it and dig out the pit area about half a foot deep, round or square and get some bricks to suit. If you really want to save money and do it on the cheap then keep your eyes out for decent size rocks that will work. Many times farmers clear off their fields and throw them in the ditch on country roads. Find a remote beach that has rocks and gather up some to take home. Once you have enough of them you can build the walls of the structure by fitting them together as best as they can. Bricks will obviously do a tight fit, while rocks are more of a loose fit. You can use cement to hold the rocks together if you want to but it’s not necessary. Fill in the centre area with gravel or small stone and you’re good to go. A fire pit also can spruce up a patio or simply doubles as backyard decor.
